I'm riding a high from having seen Mamma Mia last night. Yes, I really enjoyed it. Fault me for that.
Anyway, riding the feel-good wave, here's a wonderful interview with Marjorie M. Liu.
Introduction:
You know how much it sucks when crappy people get ahead and how much more awesome it is when good things happen to great people? That's what this interview is all about. I know how easily Marjorie blushes, so my evil plan—okay, possibly I'm more wicked than truly evil—is to embarrass her by saying all manner of nice and true things about her by way of introduction.

Marjorie is a tremendously talented writer who's as beautiful inside as out. She's a lawyer, a New York Times bestselling author and a world traveler. She's also kind enough to sit still for this interview. Without further ado, I give you Marjorie M. Liu.
Q. Are you blushing yet? 'Cause I can go on if you really want <g>.
What, and have my face catch on fire?
Q. Your new covers are almost as hot as your books. What can you tell us about your upcoming urban fantasy series starting in July and new Dirk & Steele novel the month after?
I've lucked out in the cover department, that's for sure. As for my books, THE IRON HUNT just came out, and is my first full-length foray into urban fantasy (though a prequel novella in the anthology, WILD THING, sets the stage). THE IRON HUNT is about a young woman, the last Warden of earth, who is covered in living tattoos that peel off her body at night to form her own demonic army.
My next novel, which comes out at the very end of July, is a paranormal romance and the eighth in my Dirk & Steele series. A woman wakes in a hotel room, covered in blood and surrounded by three dead men -- and she has no idea who she is. Her identity is gone. All she knows is that she might be a murderer -- and that she has to run. Doing so brings her into the life of Lannes Hannelore, a gargoyle in disguise, who takes it upon himself to protect the woman as she searches for the truth about her past.
Q. Where do you find your inspiration?
Honestly, I have no clue. Inspiration, in my opinion, is one part joy, one part brain-lightning -- and two bits insanity. Which adds up to fun, hard work, and more fun.
Q. What's your writing schedule/process like?
Depends on the day, but in general, I get up -- eat a little, drink some tea, check my email -- and then crank up the music and just go for it. When I'm on deadline and late on a book, I also tend to knit. I do not know why. The yarn calls to me.
I should add that I have to write in absolute comfort -- which means big flannel pajamas. I own an extensive and colorful collection.
Q. Do you get any down time and, if so, who do you like to read?
The problem with enjoying your work, and working at home, is that the work never leaves you -- but I'm cool with that. I love words. Put a good book in front of me, and you won't find a happier person, anywhere. As for my favorites, that's incredibly difficult to list. I will say that I recently read the children's book, THE INVENTION OF HUGO CABRET by Brian Selznick, and I adored it.
Q. You're a fan of all sorts of things from Transformers to the X-Men. What do you find yourself geeking out about?
Man, this blog ain't long enough! You've mentioned the Big Two -- Transformers and the X-Men (and I'm lucky enough to actually be writing a Marvel comic book called NYX, which is part of that universe) -- but there's also all those great fantasy and sci-fi movies of the 80's that I love, as well as more recent television: X-Files, Firefly, Buffy, Angel (just roll up Joss Whedon, please), Doctor Who, Stargate, Star Wars, and so on. Getting my geek on is like flipping a light switch in my brain -- all my cylinders burn a little brighter.
Oh, and I can't forget the music. Check this out, A-HA fans!
Q. Any other tasty tidbits you can think of? Things or sites you'd like to plug?
I'm writing a comic book for Marvel called NYX, which comes out in August as part of a six-issue limited release. In fact, I'll be at Comic Con from July 23-28, talking about the new comic, as well as my novels. You can visit my website for information about signing times and panels. Also, THE IRON HUNT has a great trailer that you can find here at YouTube: http://youtube.com/watch?v=h7njahdz3vk
As always, I love my readers -- and I thank you all (and Lucienne, especially) for being such wonderful, incredibly supportive people.
