Guest Blogs and Giveaways

  • Dec. 14th, 2009 at 11:13 AM

I don't know how much blogging I'll get done myself this week, as I try to tackle a mountain of work before the holidays. (I know me, and if there's any work to do, I'll do it, even if I'm supposed to be "on vacation." The only way to actually relax is to make sure there's nothing to obsess about <g>.) However, The Knight Agency has exciting things going on all this week, including our virtual party on Thursday, December 17th, so I hope you'll check in frequently. Here's the intro from the TKA blog for today's guest post and giveaway by the ever-awesome Carol Berg:

Christmas Week Guest Blog and Giveaway: Magic on a Winter's Night by Carol Berg

First a little bit of introduction, and then onto Carol Berg's awesome post! This week we're celebrating the holidays with a line-up of guest bloggers, including Carol, Michele Lang, Michelle Celmer, Twila Belk and a very special mega-blog on Friday featuring New York TImes bestselling authors Marjorie M. Liu, Rachel Caine, Christie Golden and Nalini Singh! As part of the celebration ALL of the authors are giving away signed copies of their books and TKA is hosting a special scavenger hunt!
There are TWO ways to win. Each day this week (Dec. 14 - Dec. 18) a guest blogger will give away a signed book to one person randomly chosen from the comment section. Also, at the bottom of the post there will be a scavenger hunt question. The answer can be located somewhere on the author's website. Send in all 5 correct answers* to the scavenger hunt questions, and you will be entered in a drawing to win the TKA Suprise Christmas Stocking overflowing with books and holiday treats!!!

Every year, The Knight Agency holds an awesome on-line holiday party with presents (okay, prizes) and all! From our blog:

This year we are featuring the authors of CHRISTMAS MIRACLES, Marley Gibson and Cecil Murphey, along with the book's 50 contributors on December 17th @ 9pm ET. Prizes include copies of CHRISTMAS MIRACLES (natch!), plus selections from other TKA authors and a first chapter critique by one of our agents with a ONE WEEK turnaround!* Wowza! Make sure you mark your calendars for this event!!

The 411 on CHRISTMAS MIRACLES: A man lies gravely ill in the hospital on Christmas when he hears angels singing and immediately makes a full recovery. A little boy with dyslexia sits down to read a Christmas book and realizes that his disability has vanished. And a woman’s faith is renewed by the chance discovery of a simple nativity set.
Many ordinary people experience God’s grace during those special moments when Christmas becomes more than just a holiday, but a time for miracles. Cecil Murphey and Marley Gibson bring you the real-life stories of everyday people who have experienced these life-changing moments of hope, comfort, and transformation—all during the most wonderful time of the year.

Off this morning to do a segment of the Great American Teach-in at my son's school. I'm hoping it will inspire a few kids to write the way my amazing fifth grade teacher inspired me.

Shannon K. Butcher will be talking with us tomorrow at The Knight Agency chat room, talking about her excellent paranormal romance series, The Sentinel Wars, including BURNING ALIVE and FINDING THE LOST, as well as her recently released romantic suspense novel LOVE YOU TO DEATH.

We hope you'll join us on Thursday, November 19th @ 9pm ET. Of course we'll also have trivia and great prizes. For more information on Shannon, visit www.ShannonKButcher.com.

Chat and fabulous new cover

  • Sep. 28th, 2009 at 3:12 PM

This just in, fabulous cover for the next Morganville Vampires novel by Rachel Caine:

If that's not cool enough for you, Louisa Edwards will be our featured guest in The Knight Agency chat room on Wednesday, September 30th @ 9pm ET. Formerly an editor at Berkley before changing hats, she describes her debut novel, CAN'T STAND THE HEAT (St. Martin's, Sept. 2009) as a "culinary romance."

Here's the 411 on CAN'T STAND THE HEAT: For sharp-tongued Miranda Wake, the chance to spend a month in Adam Temple’s kitchen to write an exposé is a journalistic dream come true. Surely Miranda can find a way to cut the hotshot chef down to size once she learns what really goes on at his trendy Manhattan restaurant. The trouble is, she never expected Adam to find out her most embarrassing secreT: this critic has no idea how to cook.

As for Adam, well, he’s not about to have his reputation burned by a critic who doesn’t even know the difference between poaching and paring. He’ll just have to give the tempting redhead a few private lessons of his own—teaching Miranda what it means to cook with passion.

To learn more about Louisa, visit www.LouisaEdwards.com.

Romantic Times cont'd

  • Apr. 26th, 2009 at 6:46 PM

Just a few more pics for you from Romantic Times.  Saturday was my quiet day because my husband and son came in to meet me, and while I really, really wanted to go to the signing (which Vamped wasn't a part of because of its May pub date), my family really, really wanted my company at Disney.  Mostly, I suspect it's because they want to scare the bejeebers out of me with some of the rides, but at least partially I think they kinda like me.  I have at least a dozen books on my list to pick up at the bookstore when I get home.  Gives me an excuse to stalk the authors for signatures at some future date.  Or not, because I'm not really an autograph chasing kind of girl.  The important thing is that the authors and publishers get the royalties.  (Let's see see, I think I owe Jaye five sales at full price to make up for the thirty-eight special pics.  Or was it ten?  I definitely think you should stick the ringleaders with ten and let me know if you plan to take any photo-worthy vengeance!)

Anyway, I had a very nice coffee date with Leah Hultenschmidt from Dorchester, who I discovered blogs as Romantic Reads.  I'm going to have her guest blog for me some time soon on the editor/agent relationship.  It should be very interesting, especially to round out the picture we already began with the agent/author dialogues I had some time ago, which started here (if you click on the tags featuring David B. Coe, you should be able to find them all).

You can't see it in the photo below, but the detailing on Leah's shoes actually matched that on her sweater.  I was incredibly impressed and a little jealous of anyone who can be that put together at 10 a.m. the fourth day of a conference.  (If you're doing it right, by the third or fourth day, you're usually dehydrated, sleep deprived and almost completely without voice.)

Saturday night, The Knight Agency gang met up with Sue Grimshaw from Borders and went off to the crazy and crafty tapas restaurant Tu Tu Tango for dinner.

Let's see if I can get everyone!
First pic: the incredibly talented Faith Hunter, author of BLOODRING, SERAPHS, HOST and the forthcoming SKINWALKER and me
(Note: as Gwen Hunter, Faith's alter-ego, she won the 2008 Romntic Times Award for Best Contemporary Mystery for SLEEP SOFTLY, published by Mira.  Go, Gwen!)
Second pic, back left to right: Dakota Cassidy, Kristen Painter, Jennifer St. Giles, Sue Grimshaw, Deidre Knight, me; front left to right: Faith Hunter, Melissa Mayhue, Louisa Edwards

I didn't get pictures of the fan dancer, the belly dancer, Jade Lee (who arrived after my husband, who took the above shots, vanished) and all the amazing artwork and jewelry gracing Tu Tu Tango.  Yes, a restaurant where you can both eat and shop...it was a little like nirvana.

Relaunched website for The Knight Agency

  • Nov. 13th, 2008 at 7:10 PM

Back from the cruise to find this very exciting announcement from our Publicity/Public Relations Manager in my inbox!

The Knight Agency staff is thrilled to announce that the new and improved company website, KnightAgency.net, is up and running! The goal of our redesign effort was to effectively rebrand the website into a product that comprehensively promotes client work as well as encourages communication. We also sought to create a dynamic design that would easily adjust to accommodate our growing agency and the individual needs of our clients and the greater publishing community. Besides a state-of-the-art design, innovations to the website include a streamlined booklist, up-to-date client links, more info on TKA’s mission and staff and a multimedia page. We’ve also built an entirely new message board! We feel that the final result hits the right notes, and will continue to sing even more as updates are made and your voices pour into the community areas.

It is our goal to give you a website that continually displays the most current and up-to-date content. Please keep me in mind whenever you receive breaking news on your current and upcoming titles. Whether you have new information on book covers, cover copy, awards, special recognitions or magazine articles – I always look forward to receiving your emails. The more frequently you each email me, the more I can ensure that we feature your titles not only on the website, but also the blog and newsletter.

So,  please take a moment to visit KnightAgency.net and take a peek around. We are sure you will be delighted by the improvements, and look forward to receiving your feedback!

Sincere Regards,

Jia Gayles & The Knight Agency Team

Winner and guest blogging over at TKA

  • Oct. 30th, 2008 at 8:44 AM

The winner of yesterday's giveaway is janastocks.  I've left instructions in my response to your comment yesterday.  I'll get the book out to you as soon as I hear where to send it.  Thanks for playing!

I'm blogging over here today: http://knightagency.blogspot.com/ in honor of their Halloween Week.  I hope you'll all check it out.
I'm not sure which title they'll choose to go with, "Confessions of an Unrepentant Schlock Film Junkie" or "Confessions of a Scream Queen," but either way, I hope it's fun.

Book Giveaway!

  • Oct. 1st, 2008 at 10:39 AM

I'm a little slow in reporting this because I was out yesterday for a medical thing, but The Knight Agency is doing a big book giveaway.  Here's the word from the blog:

The seasons are changing, and we are doing a little "autumn cleaning" here at TKA. Our book closet happens to be overflowing with phenomenal titles by our awesome clients! So in an effort to spiffy up our digs, we are giving away an amazing 10+ TITLES EACH TO TWO WINNERS!

So this is the deal, leave your name in the comments selection below between now and Wednesday night @ 12:00am ET. The winner will be announced Thursday morning. Good Luck!

Now, they're talking the comments section on the agency blog, not this one, of course.  Good luck to all who throw their names in the hat!

  • Sep. 24th, 2008 at 8:07 AM

I hope you've all enjoyed Epic Fantasy Week, because we're going to do it all again very soon with Urban Fantasy Week, starting Monday, October 20th.  That doesn't mean I won't have anything cool to say between now and then, though, so check back.

Also in October: bestselling paranormal romance author Nalini Singh will be doing a chat on The Knight Agency site on October 16th at 9pm EST.
And on Thursday, November 20, 2008 Jonathan Friesen will be chatting.

More as it happens.
