Tracking the remote signal leads Claire- accompanied by her friends and frenemies-to discover that what started as an online brawl will soon threaten everyone in Morganville...

"Neill creates a strong-minded, sharp-witted heroine who will appeal to fans of Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse series and Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake." -Library Journal

Times are hard for newly minted vampire Merit. Ever since shapeshifters announced their presence to the world, humans have been rallying against supernaturals-and they're camping outside of Cadogan House with protest signs that could turn to pitchforks at any moment. But then the mayor of Chicago calls Merit and Ethan to a clandestine meeting and tells them about a violent vamp attack that has left three women missing. His message is simple: get your House in order. Or else.

Merit needs to get to the bottom of this crime, but it doesn't help that she can't tell who's on her side. So she secretly calls in a favor from someone who's tall, dark, and part of underground vamp group that may have some deep intel on the attack. Merit soon finds herself in the heady, dark heart of Chicago's supernatural society-a world full of vampires who seem ready to fulfill the protesting human's worst fears, and a place where she'll learn that you can't be a vampire without getting a little blood on your hands...

Yup, big day here and very happy holidays.  I've heard some around the blogosphere complain when agents talk about or promote their authors' work on their blogs, but hey, it's my blog and I'll throw virtual parties if I want to.  Part of the fun of having a blog, in addition to giving what I can to the community with blogs on writing, querying and the business, is getting to gush about my awesome authors.  You go, gang!

Halloween Blog Bash with Jasmine Haynes

Jasmine Haynes/Jennifer Skully/JB Skully is here with me today in all her multiple personalities (I picture her looking something like the god, Janus) to talk about scary movies. Jennifer and I had the pleasure a few years ago to do a Thelma & Louise type trip through LA to check out some fabulous production design houses, plus the La Brea Tar Pits, Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum, the Walk of Fame, Mann's Chinese Theatre...you name it...which is where I found out of her undying love for Pitch Black.  Re: the production studios - that's right, I know geeks in high places.  Eat your hearts out!  (Considering that I'm still zombie-me, I mean that quite literally.  But leave me the brains.  Ummm...brains....)

Scary Movies by Jasmine Haynes

Thanks so much for having me, Lucienne!

It’s almost Halloween! So it sounds like the perfect time to talk about some of my favorite scary movies. I can’t tell you about ALL of them because, well, there are far too many. I love scary movies! High on the list is The Sixth Sense with Bruce Willis. Honestly, I did not guess the ending of that movie! I just didn’t pick up on the clues. And if you haven’t seen it, don’t worry, I’m not going to spoil it! I’d also have to put Pitch Black way up on the list. First of all, it’s got Vin Diesel, and don’t ask me why, and many of you might not agree, but he was so darn sexy in that movie! I love bald. Then there’s the whole “fear of the dark” thing. The movie hits that button because there are a lot of things to fear in all that pitch black! Then, and personally my favorite thing about Pitch Black, is the redemption theme, for both Vin Diesel and the character played by Radha Mitchell. Another favorite is Cloverfield. After I stopped feeling sick over the bouncing video camera, I thought it was edge-of-the-seat scary fun, basically Godzilla attacks New York! Speaking of the video camera stuff, I thought The Blair Witch Project was very scary. A lot of people just thought it was plain stupid, like why were these people all freaked out about a bunch of sticks hanging in trees. But for me, it was like being a kid again, huddled around the campfire scaring ourselves with stories, the power of suggestion. There’s nothing out there, but you’re still frightened to walk up to the camp bathrooms on your own!

For classic scary stuff, I love The Nightmare on Elm Street. Believe it or not, I saw this movie on my honeymoon in London at a Covent Garden theater and we ate pink sugar popcorn! I think that officially makes me a freak, but both my hubby and I have fond memories of that trip. I remember thinking that the kid who starred in it was extremely handsome. And look how far he’s come, Johnny Depp, from Nightmare to stardom! Another of my classic favorites is The Omega Man with Charlton Heston. Will Smith has since remade this movie under the original title from the book, I Am Legend. And though the special effects were great, and the monsters very creepy and scary, I still prefer The Omega Man. Oh, oh, one last classic, The Thing with Kurt Russell (not the 1950’s version, but the one from 1982). Okay, let’s face it, very creepy monsters, and I really felt sad about the dogs, but whoa, Kurt Russell, what’s not to like. Hot, hot, hot. Yes, sometimes, I like scary movies just for the eye candy!

I’d love to hear what your scary favorites are!

Lucienne, thanks again for letting me talk about my favorite movies!

Good Causes and New Releases

I'll have an awesome interview up later today with Jeri Smith-Ready, whose YA novel SHADE debuts today.

In the meantime, I wanted to touch on two good causes.  First, you've all heard about the floods in Nashville (and if not,
here's an article you can read for an idea of the extent of the damage).  One of my very best friends has been forced out of her home, which is knee deep in water.  I asked her if she had an idea of the charities that were quick with the aid there, and she said she'd already seen Red Cross shelters up.  I've noticed with other disasters that they're often among the first responders, so for those who want to help with a donation, here's their site.  If anyone wants to suggest other worthy charities, I'd welcome the info.

Also, it's time again for Brenda Novak's on-line auction to benefit diabetes research.  This is a remarkable thing she does, and you can see the offerings
here, including jewelry, purses, food, critiques, meetings, etc.   Mine (a thirty-page critique and follow up coffee at RWA or phone conversation should the face to face not be possible) is here.

Happy Release Day to Elise Hyatt for her second Daring Finds Mystery, FRENCH POLISHED MURDER, and to Jasmine Haynes for her new erotic novel HERS FOR THE EVENING!

Warning: Hot, Hot, Hot!

Jasmine Haynes writes sizzling hot romances for Berkley Heat.  In honor of the release of her new anthology, LACED WITH DESIRE, and, of course, the season, I asked her to guest blog about heating things up in these cold winter months!  Comment to be entered to win a signed copy of the anthology (18 and up, please)!

SPICING IT UP with Jasmine Haynes

Thanks for having me, Lucienne!  And happy After-Valentines, everyone!

Stoking the fire in a relationship is sometimes a bit of work, perhaps even an afterthought if we’re working all day, running the kids around, or doing the umpteen million things that have to get done in our busy lives.  But I’d like to take a page out of my friend’s book of life.  She was my roomie at one of last year’s conferences.  Married to her high school sweetheart, her kids are now finishing up college and starting their own lives.  We were gabbing in the room one night, and her phone kept buzzing with text messages from her husband.  And me, I’m wondering what the heck he could be saying that made her smile so much, because jeez, they’ve been married forever.  What could they possibly have to say?  Maybe he was texting to find out what leftovers he should be using up out of the fridge or where he’d left the remote.  But she’d get this...look, sort of dreamy.  I couldn’t stand it anymore, I had to ask.  And she revealed that he was sending her sex texts!  Oh my God!  I’ve since heard it referred to as sexting.  Flirty little naughty text messages.  Wow.  I found this utterly romantic.  He missed her!  With the kids starting their own lives, this couple is finding a resurgence in their love life.  It even brought a tear to my eye, it was just so darn sweet. Not to mention sexy.

Being a romance writer, it started me thinking about all the different things couples can do to bring something fresh to the relationship.  I know, some people say having their SO surprise them with doing some housework is foreplay, but I think I’ll try something a little more spicy.  Like going out to dinner with friends and sending him naughty text messages across the dinner table.  Getting his motor all revved up before we even get home.  Or how about a little role play, like arriving at a bar separately and pretending we don’t know each, and having him hit on me.  Everyone around you thinks it’s a pick up!  Okay, be it TMI or not, I played this little game with my husband, and it made me breathless.  I fell into the role, and it actually felt real.  And oh so fun.  Or how about renting a motel room right near his workplace and calling him to come over for a quickie at lunch.  Or skip the text messaging I mentioned earlier and go right to the phone call, maybe while he’s driving home and all he can do is listen to you talk naughty.  He’ll be crazy by the time he gets home.  Of course, if you’ve got kids, maybe you should send them to the sitter for the evening.  Ooh, the phone works really well if one of you is on a business trip.  As you can see, a lot of this is fantasy, talking, bantering, especially when you’re apart.  Sometimes it’s even reading a passage out of an erotic romance.  In my upcoming May 2010 release, Hers for the Evening, the second book in my Courtesans Tales, my heroine Courtney has a very different way of spicing things up.  As the disclaimer goes on those fantastic stunts you see on TV, don’t try this one at home!  But it was fun to write, and hopefully you’ll have fun reading it.

I’d love to hear some of your tips for spicing things up.  Post a comment to be entered in my drawing for an autographed copy of my latest release with Jaci Burton, Joey Hill, and Denise Rossetti, Laced With Desire.  Please try out an excerpt here.

Traditions with Jasmine Haynes

Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding is my absolute favorite meal (my grandfather was English), so I know whose house to visit next year!  Jasmine Haynes/Jennifer Skully/JB Skully takes time out from her multiple personalities <g> and her holiday huddle to share some wonderful traditions (and a great recipe).  Enjoy!

Holiday Traditions with Jasmine Haynes

Here’s how my holiday season works.  My two brothers live back East, so my mom alternates years between the daughters and the sons, meaning, one year my sister and I get Thanksgiving with her, and the next year we, the girls, get Christmas.  This year our turn was Thanksgiving, so we’re packaging her up and shipping her off today.  But on Saturday we had a wonderful celebration.  Our feast was turducken (it’s a roll of turkey, duck and chicken with sausage stuffing in the middle), roast potatoes, broccoli and Hot Chocolate pudding for dessert (YUM!).  Now, I have to admit we all agreed that next year we’ll go back to the traditional roast beef and Yorkshire pudding and skip the turducken.  Did I tell you Mom is British?  Yep, and a very proper English lady at that.  Our traditional meal when I was a kid always included Yorkshire Pudding.  It’s not really a pudding like it sounds, but more like a popover.  And you fill it with gravy made from the meat drippings.  To die for.  I always loved the hot chocolate pudding, too.  It’s like a brownie with a hot fudge sauce.  Add a dollop of whipped cream, mmm.  Love it!  The other traditional dessert we often have is English Trifle.  Loads of whipped cream, and a spike to it as well, thanks to the sherry.  Today I’m going to share my mother’s recipe for English trifle with you.

Mom’s English Trifle

            2 packages lady finger cakes

            Raspberry jam as needed

            4 to 6 T sherry

            2 bananas sliced

            1 package thick custard

            2 half pints whipping cream

Place lady fingers around edge and center of dessert bowl, covering the whole bowl.  Spread raspberry jam over top of cake (thin layer to individual liking).  Drizzle sherry on top to soak into cake.  Layer bananas on top of cake and sherry.  Make thick custard from package and spread over bananas and cake.  Whip cream and top cooled custard.

Okay, Mom says “drizzle” but let me tell you, she can be very liberal with the sherry, LOL!

Any traditional recipes you’d like to share?

I’ve also got my blog up http://jasminehaynes.blogspot.com/ so feel free to pop over there and check out Mom’s recipe for Hot Chocolate Pudding, too!

Happy Holidays everyone!!!!  And thanks for having me, Lucienne!
